Educational Development Coordinator
The Early Years Institute, an innovative nonprofit working in communities on issues related to young children, is seeking to hire a savvy and strategic community organizer to engage local organizations, civic leaders and residents in efforts to improve school readiness. This work involves the use of the Asset Based Community Development model which identifies local assets as the primary building blocks of sustainable community development. Initial work will occur within the Town of Westbury; however, plans are underway to expand school readiness efforts to other communities on Long Island.
The ideal candidate will possess excellent organizational and communication skills, display initiative, attention to detail, and the ability to work well independently and as a team member. The candidate will have the ability to work with different constituencies and develop leadership that can be sustained .This individual must understand how to lead by stepping back. They must also be proficient in and have full command of all Microsoft Office programs. Ability to read data and understand research would be a plus. The ability to handle multiple responsibilities, work collaboratively in a team environment with a professional, friendly demeanor is essential to success
Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
- Lead and manage Westbury Leadership Team meetings, calendar, goals and mobilization
- Work with diverse stakeholders ranging from academia, childcare providers, community volunteers, not-for-profit and for-profit sectors.
- Attend community functions, festivals and meetings to facilitate relationships and partnerships
- Use strategies such as asset mapping and community cafes to listen, engage and connect residents around issues related to school readiness.
- Train community residents to conduct parent cafes.
- Implement strategies through leveraging the leadership of neighborhood residents and institutions so that strategies are maintained and sustained by residents.
- Measure outcomes and document community, coalition and EYI progress towards goals
- Develop and monitor budgets as needed
- Research and integrate best-practices related to community and neighborhood development efforts within the nation.
- Coordinate with EYI resource development, program and marketing representatives.
- Develop materials for coalition and other EDI business meetings and coordinate all logistics (e.g. invitations, RSVPS, attendance lists, meeting agendas and materials, follow-up meeting minute reports and report distribution.)
- Contribute to activities throughout the organization as needed.
Educational and Position Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, early childhood education, public administration or equivalent degree preferred.
- Must have valid driver’s license.

Compensation: Starting at $40,000, depending on experience and skills. Employee package includes excellent health benefits and flexibility.
